You go to Barrister's for the outside balcony view. And that's what you come back for too. It's nice to have an alternative balcony for people watching (for awhile Mugshots was the only one). They have a decent selection of draft beers (5-7 or so). We pretty much sit on the balcony and enjoy our brews. When it gets crowded, it's not quite as much fun as the balcony overflows with smokers.

I've had the crawfish nachos twice (chips with rotel and crawfish). Once they were awesome; the second time they had very little crawfish and were a big soggy. I've had the poboy and muffaletta. Both were decent.

I went at night and it was not much more than a young crowd college bar. I did like the live music though.

I held off on this review because after my first visit, I wanted to give Barrister's a 2nd chance. Quite honestly their food was average, I had the PoBoy on first visit and the wings (chipotle sauce, nice flavor but no heat) the second visit. For some reason I had the idea since they are related/similar ownership to Tyler's there would be some creative menu choices. More importantly, the table service was terrible. Half my party arrived after we had placed our drink order, and almost 25 minutes passed before their order was placed - and there were maybe 15 other people in the place at the time. Our server was courteous but not very observant. After 2 visits, I simply do not understand why my friends continue to visit this establishment.

I can see this being a favorite place to unwind after work during the spring, summer, and fall. Sitting on the balcony sipping a delicious brew from the tap is very relaxing. The balcony area is nice because it's small and cozy; granted, though, I haven't been on a really crowded evening. If you visit Barrister's and you even remotely like onion rings, you are doing yourself a disservice if you do not order this appetizer. I have never had any so lightly battered and delicious.
Went there last month for a mixer. The fried cheese was awesome and the bartender fixed my drink on point. Definitely on my new hangout list.

I and my out-of-town guests enjoyed the view from the new balcony as well as the delicious friend pickles, wings, and burgers. Am looking forward to trying the muffaletta and the catfish sandwich, too.

I've only been here once, when it was first opening, so take that into account. The menu is typical Starkville bar food: chicken fingers, burgers, etc. The service was scattered, but then again, that's when they first opened. They do have a nice space for live music, and a decent bar. This is mostly an undergraduate hang out; profs should probably stay away on the weekends, lest they be peppered with questions from drunken students about what grade they got on their paper.
